Using a paper plate, colorful paper mosaics, some paint, and half-spheres made of polystyrene, children will create adorable suns to bring a touch of cheer to the home or classroom.
Painting and gluing are on the agenda for this activity to develop the creativity and dexterity of your little artists !
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make a sun, you need:
- A cardboard plate
- 3 half spheres made of polystyrene (2 of 6 cm diameter and 1 of 4 cm diameter)
- Mosaic sheets
- Chenille stems
- Satin cord
- Acrylic paint and a brush
- 2 paint markers (1 white and 1 black)
- White glue
- A pair of scissors
- A cutting mat
- A hole punch
Step 1:
Flip the plate and using a hole punch, make a hole at the top to attach the children's creation.
Tip: Use a cutting board to protect your work surface.
Step 2:
Apply white glue around the edge of the plate and then stick the sturdy cardstock mosaics, varying the patterns and colors.
Step 3:
Paint the inside of the plate with yellow acrylic paint and then let it dry for about 15 minutes.
Step 4:
Using a black marker, color a circle at the center of each half-ball of 6 cm.
To create the eyelashes, cut 6 pipe cleaners about 3 to 4 cm long and insert them into the polystyrene.
Step 5:
Use a half-sphere of 4 cm and paint it red to make the little nose of the sun.
Step 6:
Tip: use a white marker to draw a few dots at the center of the eye to create a sparkling look.
Step 7:
Then glue the eyes and nose onto the plate.
Step 8:
Draw the mouth of the sun with a black marker.
Step 9:
And there you have it, all that's left to do is thread a satin cord through the hole at the top of the plate so you can hang this lovely sun.
