Make a Paper Butterfly with a Clothespin
Today we are not just making a simple paper butterfly, but a lovely butterfly that will also be magnetic (to attach to the fridge) and can hold your notes and photos with a clothespin.
Children will love this original and colorful creative activity !

How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To make a memo butterfly / magnet you need:
- a strong white A4 card (300 g/m²)
- rolls of masking tape
- a wooden clothespin (7 cm)
- a wooden spherical pawn (Ø 3 cm)
- 2 googly eyes Ø 1.2 cm
- a colorful fabric bow
- acrylic paint and a paintbrush
- adhesive magnetic tape
- wood glue
- a pair of scissors
Step 1
Stick 10 strips of masking tape across the width of a white A4 card.
Step 2
Cut out the butterfly wing template (see "Technical Sheet" under the main photo) and then trace the outline of the wings on your sheet.
Step 3
Cut out the wings following your outline.
Step 4
Paint a clothespin and a wooden pawn with acrylic paint.
Step 5
To create the butterfly's face, glue 2 movable eyes Ø 1.2 cm on the wooden peg and then draw a mouth with a ballpoint pen.
Step 6
Glue the wooden piece onto the clothespin with wood glue.
Step 7
Glue a pretty colored fabric bow onto the clothespin to add charm and elegance to your butterfly.
Note that wood glue will work perfectly for gluing the fabric bow!
Step 8
Cut 2 small strips of paper and glue them behind the pawn to create the butterfly's antennae.
Step 9
Glue the body of the butterfly onto the wings using wood glue.
Step 10
Cut a strip of adhesive magnetic tape about 10 to 12 cm long and stick it behind the wings of the butterfly, so you can hang the butterfly on the fridge or any metal surface!
Step 11
Practical, the clothespin will be used to hang your notes or photos!
