With this easy and quick craft, children will have fun making a butterfly puppet and a lovely floral decoration! Perfect for organizing a creative workshop themed around spring.
An activity that only uses simple materials: paper plate, paper, small flowers, drawing ink, pipe cleaners, Styrofoam egg.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make a puppet you need:
- A cardboard plate
- Flower stickers
- A styrofoam egg
- Chenille stems
- Blue drawing ink and a brush
- A green cardstock
- Funny eyes to stick
- A skewer
- A black permanent marker
- Double-sided tape
- A precision cutter
- Scissors + pinking shears
Step 1:
Start by painting the plate with blue drawing ink. The drawing ink will create a nice "sky" effect.
Then let the plate dry for 15 minutes.
Step 2:
Cut:
- 4 strips of about 15 cm (for the outer wings)
- 4 strips of about 12 cm (for the inner wings)
- 2 strips of about 8 cm (for the antennas)
Step 3:
Plant the caterpillars in the polystyrene egg to form the wings and antennae of the butterfly.
Step 4:
Place the funny eyes directly into the polystyrene and draw a mouth with a permanent marker.
Step 5 :
Push the skewer into the egg.
Step 6:
Stick foam rubber flower stickers onto your plate, varying the colors and types of flowers.
Tip : Layering the flowers creates a beautiful 3D effect!
Step 7:
WARNING: This step cannot be performed by a child alone.
Make a notch on the edge of the plate like this with the precision cutter.
Step 8:
Flip the plate and place it on the strong green card as shown in the photo. Trace the outline of the plate with a pencil.
Step 9:
Cut the rounded shape with a pair of scissors.
Cut the right edge with zigzag scissors.
Step 10:
Stick the green heavyweight card onto the plate with double-sided adhesive.
Step 11 :
Insert the butterfly puppet into the notch to integrate it into the decor.
