Indian Chick
In this tutorial, we will use our imagination to transform a simple polystyrene cone into an adorable little chick with colorful feathers.
A complete and fun Easter craft that kids are sure to love !
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Etape 1.
To make an Indian chick, you will need:
- a polystyrene cone (height = 18 cm)
- yellow acrylic paint and a brush
- 2 movable eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- lightweight or strong orange cardstock
- a pair of scissors
- about 15 Indian feathers
- ribbon
- double-sided adhesive tape
Etape 2.
Paint the polystyrene cone with yellow acrylic paint and let it dry for about 20 minutes.
Tip: Insert a wooden stick under the cone to paint it without getting paint on your fingers.
Etape 3.
Cut a piece of colored ribbon about 15 cm long, then stick a piece of double-sided tape along the entire length of the ribbon.
Select about 10 feathers, then cut the calamus (the "quill" of the feather) to approximately 1 cm long.
Then place the feathers in the center of the ribbon, side by side, on the adhesive strip.
Etape 4.
Glue the ribbon and feathers at the top of the polystyrene cone to create the Indian chick's headdress.
Adjust the length of the ribbon if needed using a pair of scissors.
Etape 5.
Stick 2 movable eyes Ø 2.5 cm using double-sided tape.
Etape 6.
To create the chick's beak, cut out a triangle from orange paper and then stick it with double-sided tape.
Etape 7.
Insert feathers on each side of the cone to create the chick's wings.
For better durability, we recommend applying strong white glue where the feathers are inserted into the styrofoam (the strong white glue becomes clear as it dries).
Etape 8.
Cut out 2 triangles from orange paper and glue them below the cone to create the chick's feet.
