Stained Glass Kite
Create a kite with stained glass paper. This translucent paper allows for interesting transparency effects and color mixing, resulting in various effects. It's an activity that lets you create first, and then play afterwards.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Etape 1.
Here is the list of materials needed to create a decorative kite:
- 2 strong black A4 sheets
- Tissue paper or coloured transparent paper in matching colours
- A roll of adhesive film
- A pair of scissors
- A ruler + a pencil
- A stapler
- Coloured string
- Masking tape
- Patafix (to hang your creation)
Etape 2.
Cut out a kite shape from an A4 black card.
Etape 3.
Cut out the interior of the kite, leaving edges about 1.5 cm wide.
Etape 4.
In the second black card, cut a few strips 1.5 cm wide along the length.
Etape 5.
Cut small squares of stained glass paper (or tissue paper) approximately 3 x 3 cm.
Etape 6.
Cut a piece of adhesive film large enough to place the black structure of the kite.
Then, stick the outline of the kite onto the adhesive part of the film.
Etape 7.
Glue the strips of black paper randomly over the outline of the kite.
Thanks to the adhesive film, no glue is needed for this project.
Etape 8.
Stick the small squares of stained glass paper to cover the surface of the kite.
Etape 9.
This is an overview of the completely covered surface.
Etape 10.
Cut a second rectangle of adhesive film the same size as the previous one and then stick it over the kite.
We recommend that you stick it gradually from top to bottom to avoid the formation of air bubbles.
Etape 11.
Using a pair of scissors, cut off the excess film and paper.
Etape 12.
The kite is taking shape, all that's left is to attach a string!
Etape 13.
Cut a satin cord to a length of about 1 meter, then attach it to the lower tip of the kite using a stapler.
Etape 14.
Decorate the cord with a roll of masking tape.
To do this, simply cut strips of masking tape about 10 cm long and fold them in half over the cord.
Etape 15.
Your kites decoration is now ready to be hung on one of your windows.
The light will shine through the stained glass paper and make your kite sparkle.
A great summer activity for kids and a lovely decoration for the home!
