Discover this simple method of Montessori inspiration that will allow your children to learn to recognize and name colors!
This color wheel made from wood will enable children to differentiate between shades of colors, associate them, and develop fine motor skills by manipulating clothespins.
To keep it simple, we have chosen the three primary colors and the three secondary colors arranged in a gradient.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make a color wheel, you need:
- A round wooden base (Ø 30 cm)
- Clothespins (7 cm)
- Adhesive tape (0.5 cm)
- Paint and a brush
- A compass
- A pencil
Step 1:
Place the tip of the compass at the center of the wooden support and then mark a line on the edge of the circle.
Step 2:
Keeping the compass open, place the point on the first line and make a second line on the edge of the circle.
Repeat the operation 5 times to obtain 6 lines.
Step 3:
Place 3 strips of adhesive tape between the opposite lines to define 6 areas.
Step 4:
Paint each area with primary and secondary colors.
Step 5:
Paint the ends of the clothespins with the same colors (3 clothespins per color).
Step 6:
Once the paint is dry, remove the masking tape.
To protect the surface from friction of the clothespins, we recommend applying a layer of varnish on the wooden support.
Step 7:
Children can now match the clothespins with the corresponding color areas.
