Beaded Caterpillar Keychain
During this fun creative activity, children will have the opportunity to easily and playfully make an adorable caterpillar keychain using colorful round beads!
They can choose their favorite colors, develop their coordination skills, and learn about colors while having fun. Additionally, once completed, these caterpillar keychains will make charming personal items to use or to give as handmade gifts to friends or family.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To make a caterpillar keychain you need:
- round beads in bright colors and shiny appearance
- a ring Ø 3 cm
- green waxed cotton cord Ø 1 mm
- 2 moving eyes Ø 8 mm
- POSCA markers
- a tube of strong white glue
- a pair of scissors
Step 1
Cut a piece of approximately 40 cm of green waxed cotton cord (Ø 1 mm) and then attach it to the metal ring as shown in the photo beside.
Step 2
Thread 5 to 7 colored beads onto the "double" cord to create the body of the caterpillar
Step 3
Make a triple knot with the cord to secure the beads, and then cut off the excess cord.
Step 4
Cut small pieces of cord and make a tight simple knot between two beads to create the small legs of the caterpillar.
Step 5
Glue 2 moving eyes Ø 8 mm onto the first bead.
Step 6
With POSCA markers, draw a nice smile on your caterpillar's head to bring the finishing touch to the keychain.
