Autumn is the perfect season to start setting up a bird feeder in the garden! Winter can be a challenging time for birds, so this will help them stay warm and continue to find food thanks to the birdhouses and feeders.
For this feeder, we chose a simple decoration with a natural look using brown paint, wooden knobs, and driftwood branches.
This creative craft will excite children, especially when they see little birds feeding from the feeder they installed in the garden or on the balcony!
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
For this activity you will need:
- a wooden feeder
- brown acrylic paint and a brush
- wooden buttons
- small pieces of driftwood
- wood glue
- a small apple
Optional:
- glue gun
- outdoor varnish
Step 1
Paint the feeder with brown acrylic paint and let it dry for about 30 minutes.
To protect your creation from rain and sun, we recommend applying a coat of outdoor varnish over the entire surface of the painted birdhouse.
Step 2
Paste wooden buttons on the roof of the bird feeder with wood glue.
Note: It is also possible to use a glue gun for an instant hold if the children's age allows it.
Step 3
For a nice decoration, glue a button (or two) in the center of the roof and then glue two small pieces of driftwood on either side of it.
Step 4
Glue a piece of driftwood at the bottom of the feeder.
This branch will allow the bird to perch and eat more easily!
Step 5
Glue other branches and buttons to decorate the front of the feeder.
Step 6
Insert an apple at the center using the metal stem provided with the feeder.
Step 7
Attach the feeder with the provided cord so that you can hang it in a tree or on the balcony!
