How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To create this autumn craft you will need:
- a large white cardboard plate
- a polystyrene egg (12 cm)
- ochre paint and a paintbrush
- a brown caterpillar
- a brown cardstock
- a round punch Ø 2.5 cm
- leaf stickers
- small wooden strips
- 2 movable eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- a black marker
- a pair of scissors
- a glue gun and adhesive dots
Step 1
Paint the polystyrene egg with ochre paint.
Let it dry for about an hour.
Tip: Pin the egg on a skewer to paint without getting your fingers dirty!
Step 2
Step may be reserved for adults:
Glue wooden strips around the plate with the glue gun.
Tip: As the plate is notched at the edges, leave an empty "compartment" between each strip.
Step 3
Glue tree leaf stickers between the wooden slats.
Step 4
Cut a piece of brown chenille about 5 cm long and attach it to the "base" of the egg to create the acorn's peduncle.
Step 5
Cut out approximately 30 small circles Ø 2.5 cm from a sturdy brown cardstock using a hole punch.
Step 6
This step may be reserved for adults :
Glue the small paper circles with a hot glue gun to form the cup (the hat) of the acorn.
Note: For this step, younger children can stick the paper circles using adhesive dots!
Step 7
Step may be reserved for adults:
Stick on 2 googly eyes Ø 2.5 cm and draw a small smile using a black marker.
Step 8
Cut 2 pieces of chenille and insert them into the polystyrene to create 2 arms for this funny acorn.
Step 9

Glue the acorn to the center of the plate with the hot glue gun.
