Fireflies with a Plastic Egg
This summer we will make fireflies that glow in the dark once night falls !
Children will love transforming plastic eggs into these wonderful little insects, and this activity will also introduce them to decoupage with tissue paper !
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make a firefly, you will need:
- A plastic egg
- An LED candle
- A sheet of yellow tissue paper
- Glue varnish
- A glue brush
- Two moving eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- Colored thick sheets of paper (300 g/m²)
- Adhesive gel dots (glue dots)
- A pair of scissors
Step 1:
To start, cut about 40 small squares of tissue paper measuring 3 cm x 3 cm from a sheet of yellow tissue paper.
Step 2:
Use glue varnish to stick the tissue paper squares onto the surface of the egg using a brush. To do this, apply the glue varnish on the plastic egg, stick the tissue paper squares, and then apply a layer of varnish on top.
Then allow the varnish to dry for about an hour.
Step 3:
Cut the wings, antennas, and legs from a sheet of thick colored paper.
Step 4:
Cut a circle of approximately Ø 2.5 cm from a sheet of thick black paper and then fold it in half.
Step 5:
Glue the paper legs underneath the egg using the adhesive dots.
Step 6:
Glue the antennas and wings.
Step 7:
Glue the mouth and the moving eyes Ø 2.5 cm.
Step 8:
Finally, stick a LED candle with adhesive dots inside the egg.
Step 9:
Once night falls, the little fireflies will shine in the dark thanks to the LED candles!
