How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To make an Indian rain stick, you will need:
- a cardboard tube about twenty centimeters long (like a paper towel roll)
- Coincoin tape
- masking tape
- Indian feathers
- wool
- rhinestones
- strong white glue
- a pair of scissors
- a bag of seed beads
- aluminum foil
Etape 1
Cover one end of the cardboard roll with magic paper (adhesive paper) to seal the hole.
Tip: If you do not have a large cardboard roll (like a paper towel roll), you can join two small toilet paper rolls together with adhesive tape!
Step 2
Roll a sheet of aluminum about 70 cm long onto itself to create a "braid."
Step 3
Wrap the aluminum braid around the cardboard tube to give it a spiral shape.
Step 4
Insert the spiral into the cardboard tube, then insert a large handful of small seed beads inside it.
We tested the rain stick with several types of beads, and it turns out that small seed beads are the ones that produce a sound closest to that of a traditional rain stick.
Step 5
Once the beads are inserted into the roller, seal the other end with magic paper.
Step 6
Decorate the surface of the roll with masking tape in matching patterns and colors. A simple decoration that creates a beautiful "patchwork" effect.
Step 7
Glue some feather decorations with strong white glue, then let it dry for a few minutes.
Step 8
Wrap the roll with colored yarn at the base of the feathers.
Make several turns with the yarn and finish with a simple knot.
Vary the colors for a nice effect.
Step 9
Decorate the rain stick with rhinestones to give it a sparkling look.
Step 10
The rain stick is now complete.
To simulate the sound of rain, simply turn the stick upside down like an hourglass to hear the small beads of gravel roll along the aluminum spiral.
