How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make a mask, you will need:
- A wooden support (20 x 20 cm) and nails
- A hammer/mallet
- Cotton thread spools
- Feathers
- Glitter adhesive letters
- Adhesive fabric roll
- The mask template to print
- White glue
- A compass
- A pair of scissors
Step 1:
Print the Carnival mask template by clicking on "Technical sheet" below the main photo at the top of this page.
Step 2:
Place the template on top of the wooden board from the String Art kit and use the compass point to mark the spots where the nails will be driven.
Step 3:
WARNING this step may require the help of an adult.
Hammer in the nails one by one at the marked spots using a mallet (or hammer)
Tip: To easily hammer in the nails without risking hitting your fingers, use a wooden clothespin. Place the nail in the center of the clothespin and close it so that it holds the nail securely while you hammer it in!
Step 4:
Start by making a knot around a nail with a skein of thread. Then connect the nails together, making sure to pull the thread tight. The weaving can be done in an organized or random manner depending on the children's age (the final result will be unique and colorful in any case!).
Tip : Always go back through the previous nail to add volume.
Step 5:
Return to the starting point with the first thread and make a knot. To continue your weaving while changing color, press down on your threads to move them toward the board, making it easier to wrap around the previously used nails.
Repeat these steps until your shape is completely filled.
For this model, it is preferable not to weave inside the eyes (see next photo).
Step 6:
Glue colored feathers to the top of the mask using strong white glue.
Step 7:
Customize the board by writing a first name with adhesive glitter letters.
Step 8:
For a nice finish, glue fabric tape on the edges of the board.
