Silhouette Herbarium Boards
In this activity centered around the theme of autumn, we will guide you in creating beautiful artistic boards showcasing tree leaves.
Using a sturdy black cardboard background and gouache, we play with contrasts to bring visually striking creations to life. Additionally, to add a unique texture to these boards, we will use effect stamps and stencils.
This is an original painting activity that requires little precision and allows for experimentation with painting textures.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
For this activity, you will need:
- sturdy black cards (A4 - 300 g/m²)
- gouache paint
- leaf-shaped stencils
- textured stamps
- plastic cups
- repositionable spray adhesive
Step 1
Step reserved for adults:
Apply repositionable glue (spray or roller) to the back of the leaf silhouette and let it dry for a few minutes.
Step 2
Cut the black cardstock (A4 size) in half, then place the silhouette that has been glued in the center of the cardstock.
Pour some gouache paint in autumn colors into the different cups.
Step 3
Stamp gouache paint all around the design. Alternate colors and stamps to create contrast.
Step 4
Continue by changing colors until the pattern is covered.
Step 5
Remove the silhouette to reveal the drawing and then let the paint dry for a few hours.
Step 6
Select different leaf silhouettes and vary the colors to create original collages.
