Pastelmat Block No. 3 White, 360 g - Formats Available

Pastelmat Block No. 3 White, 360 g - Formats Available

Dimensions: 18 x 24 cm or 24 x 30 cm

Pastelmat Block No. 3 White 360 g, the paper that holds pastel. Layer without fixative, without pigment loss, without compromise. Dry pastel has a well-known limitation: the paper saturates. After two or three layers, the pigment no longer adheres, colors dull, and you must fix it, risking darkening the shades and flattening the texture. Pastelmat was designed to eliminate this limit. It is now the reference paper for professional pastel artists worldwide.

Its slightly velvety surface grips the pigment instead of letting it slide. You layer colors without the previous ones detaching, and without needing to fix between each application: the pigment remains saturated and vibrant: no graying, no loss of intensity. You use fewer sticks for a denser result; the surface takes the pigment on the first pass.

Without fixative, your colors retain exactly the applied values. This is the most visible difference between a pastel created on Pastelmat and on ordinary paper.

Wet techniques accepted. This is a rare advantage for pastel paper: Pastelmat supports water and alcohol. You can prepare a wash background, with ink or diluted acrylic, or blend pastel with a wet brush or alcohol to create areas and transitions impossible to achieve dry. The paper accepts not only pastel: it accepts the entire process.

Features:

  • Size 18 × 24 cm: The study size. Portraits, still lifes, color studies, exercises, small formats to frame. Easily portable.

  • White paper, dyed throughout. Neutral pH and acid-free
  • Weight: 360 g/m²
  • Glued block, crystal interleaving
  • Uses: Dry pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, sanguine, colored pencils, wet techniques (water, alcohol)

FAQ

Should a pastel created on Pastelmat be fixed? No, that's the whole point of the paper: its adhesive surface holds the pigment and allows layering without intermediate fixative. A final fixative is possible for a highly handled work, but it is not necessary.

Why crystal interleaving? Because unfixed pastel transfers with the slightest contact. The transparent interleaving isolates each sheet and protects your finished works even inside the block.

How to detach the sheets? The block is glued: each sheet detaches by hand once the work is finished. Keep the crystal interleaving on top to protect the artwork.
