Kirigami Christmas Trees
Discover the art of folding, known as Kirigami, with this craft project for making small decorative trees. They can then be displayed on a windowsill or as a centerpiece... Perfect for creating a poetic decoration as Christmas approaches.
What is Kirigami? Originating from Japan, this paper folding art is delicate yet accessible to everyone. Like a variation of Origami, Kirigami adds an element of cutting to the traditional paper folding. The cutting of the paper creates textures and a 3D effect that interacts with shadows and light. Another unique aspect of Kirigami is that there is no need for glue; the combination of folding and cutting is sufficient to hold your creations together. Finally, the choice of paper is very important; it is essential to use relatively thick paper that will stand upright even after being cut.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Step 2
Using a white pen, draw half of a Christmas tree.
Starting from the base of the tree, draw 12 horizontal lines inside the tree, spaced 1 cm apart.
Step 3
Using a pair of scissors, first cut out the outline of the Christmas tree, then cut each line inside it.
Step 4
Finally unfold the two parts, then one strip at a time to open the interior of the tree.
To create a centerpiece, repeat this operation by varying the dimensions of the card and the patterns of the paper.
