Offer your child a fascinating scientific experience with the mixture of oil and water! Easy to set up and accessible from a very young age, this sensory activity allows them to discover the basics of science while having fun.
When mixing colored water and oil on a clear plastic pouch, the liquids do not mix. Beautiful colored droplets then form on the surface. The child can then manipulate these droplets using a wooden stick and move them to the right containers.
This activity develops fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration. While playing, the child also learns to recognize colors, associate them, and experiment with mixtures to create new shades. It's an excellent Montessori science experience.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To perform this experiment, you will need:
- a model to print here
- a plastic pocket
- oil
- water
- drawing inks
- pipettes
- wooden popsicle sticks
- spill-proof containers
- a protective mat
- paper towel / a tissue
Step 1:
Fill the pots with enough water for the activity and a few drops of ink using the pipette.
Step 2:
Slide the printed template into a clear plastic sleeve.
Step 3:
On this pouch, apply oil using a paper towel / tissue.
Step 4:
Using the pipettes, place drops of different colors and sizes on the pouch.
Step 5:
Allow the child to move the different drops of color using a wooden popsicle stick, bringing them to the corresponding color container.
It is possible to mix the drops together to create new colors.
