Frozen Paint Activity
Looking for an original, fun artistic activity perfect for hot weather? Discover frozen painting, a simple yet enjoyable idea to do with children from a very young age!
The concept? Just freeze some paint in molds and let the children paint on a thick sheet of paper using these colorful ice cubes. Guaranteed sensory fun!
Why do we love this activity?
-
For toddlers, replace the paint with food coloring mixed with a bit of water: it's safe, and just as much fun!
-
The activity can be done outdoors, making it ideal for cooling off while creating.
-
Easy to clean up: a quick rinse and little hands are all clean!
-
It's also a fantastic sensory activity that stimulates fine motor skills, tactile and visual sensations.
Bonus: you can vary the colors and shapes of the ice cubes with our various creative molds.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make glazed paint, you will need:
– gouache
– craft sticks
– a PVC tray
– a silicone mold
– thick white paper
– a protective mat
– aluminum
– a utility knife
Step 1:
Pour paint into the mold using different colors.
Tip: if this activity is being done with a little one, you can use food coloring instead of paint to avoid any risks.
Step 2:
Add a little water to fill the mold and mix.
Step 3:
Cover the mold with aluminum foil, then insert the popsicle sticks into the center of each compartment. This will help keep the sticks upright during freezing.
Tip: Make a hole with a cutter before placing the sticks in the foil to make it easier.
Step 4:
Place the mold in the freezer for several hours.
Step 5:
Once the molds are taken out of the freezer, place them in the tray to prevent the paint from spilling.
Wait 5 minutes before using the paint to ensure it is well pigmented.
