Drawing gum, masking liquid - 250 ml

Drawing gum, also known as masking fluid or reserve liquid, is used in watercolor and other water-based painting techniques. It allows you to protect certain areas of your paper that you do not want to paint, preserving the whiteness of the paper or a previously applied color. Drawing gum is therefore an excellent tool for achieving precise details, keeping areas white, or layering colors without mixing them. It can also be used to create interesting effects, such as splashes or textured patterns.

How does it work? Apply the drawing gum on the parts of the painting surface you want to keep intact, then let the product dry. Once dry, it creates a waterproof barrier that prevents paint from penetrating the paper.

Then, you can apply your watercolor over the drawing, including on the areas covered with drawing gum, without fear of bleeding or accidentally mixing colors. When your painting is finished and completely dry, gently rub off the bluish film of drawing gum to remove it, revealing the preserved areas underneath.

Precautions for use: Drawing gum can adhere to brush hairs and be difficult to remove once dry. To protect your brushes, consider lightly moistening them with soap before dipping them into the drawing gum. This creates a barrier that prevents the gum from sticking to the hairs. You can also use old brushes or specific brushes for applying drawing gum.
