White is by far the most consumed color in a palette. It is used in almost all mixtures to adjust brightness, for impastos, highlights, skies, and skin tones. This is why titanium white is available in a large 200 ml tube: you buy one while purchasing three times the other colors.

Titanium white: the most opaque of all!

Titanium white (pigment PW6) is the most opaque and covering white in oil paint. Specifically:

• It effectively masks the underlying layer — essential for touching up an area, correcting, or applying a bright light on a dark background.
• It has a strong lightening power: a small amount is enough to raise a shade in brightness, preserving the saturation of the mixture.
• It has body: its firm consistency is well-suited for knife work and impastos.

FAQ

What to dilute the paint with? Turpentine or odorless white spirit for the first layers, then a painting medium or linseed oil for the following ones. Golden rule: fat over lean.

How long does it take to dry? From 2 to 12 days to the touch depending on thickness. Through-drying takes several months: wait before varnishing.
