Rembrandt Extra-Fine Oil Paint Set - 6 or 10 Colors
Artist-quality oil paint in a discovery format. Pure pigments, intense colors, artworks that stand the test of time. These sets provide the essentials in 15 ml tubes: the ideal size to explore oil painting without investing in large tubes, or to complement an existing palette.
The difference between student-grade paint and artist-grade paint lies in the pigment load. Rembrandt colors contain a maximum concentration of finely ground pure pigments, with minimal fillers. Specifically:
- More intense and vibrant colors, even after drying
- Better covering power: less material for the same result
- Cleaner mixes, without graying — a decisive point when mixing shades
- A rich texture, that holds up under both knife and brush
The colors have been selected to cover the entire color wheel through mixing, combining opaque shades (for covering and building) and transparent shades (for glazes and depth).
Features:
- Volume: Tubes of 15 ml
- Lightfastness: +++ (minimum 100 years under museum lighting, ASTM D4303 standard)
- Techniques: Impasto, glazing, alla prima, knife, brush
What do "transparent", "semi-opaque", and "opaque" mean?
This refers to the covering power of the color. Opaque colors (titanium white, Sèvres blue) cover the underlying layer: they are used for building. Transparent colors (ultramarine deep, madder) allow light to pass through: these are the colors for glazing.
Download our free printable color wheel: primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, complementary colors, and warm and cool colors, explained in 3 A4 sheets ready for class or studio.
