3D Picture: Whale and Pirate Ship
Here is an activity that little sailors will love!
Using a polystyrene egg, some corks, paper, paint, and a canvas board, we will create a stunning 3D picture that the children can proudly display at home.
The canvas board will be painted with different shades of blue to represent a rough sea, and then we will make a friendly whale and a little pirate ship that we will glue onto the canvas board to bring this picture to life and add volume.

How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Etape 1.
To create a 3D picture of a whale and a pirate ship, you will need:
- a canvas board measuring 24 x 30 cm
- a half polystyrene egg (15 x 11 cm)
- acrylic paint and a paintbrush
- Posca markers
- 2 googly eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- 3 blue chenille stems (length: 30 cm)
- strong white glue
- colored cardstock
- 3 corks
- a wooden skewer
- stickers
Etape 2.
Paint the entire surface of the canvas board with blue acrylic paint.
Feel free to paint with different shades of blue to create beautiful effects.
Once the surface is fully covered, let the paint dry for about 15 to 20 minutes.
Etape 3.
With blue Posca markers, draw waves or other abstract patterns on the canvas board.
Etape 4.
Paint a half polystyrene egg with blue acrylic paint to create the body of the whale.
Etape 5.
Glue 2 moving eyes Ø 2.5 cm on the roundest side of the egg.
Etape 6.
Cut out the whale's tail from a blue cardstock, then glue it under the egg with strong white glue.
Wrap the tail around a pencil to give it volume.
Etape 7.
Plant 3 blue caterpillars of 30 cm on the back of the whale, then curve the ends of the caterpillars.
Etape 8.
Stick the whale onto the canvas board using strong white glue.
Etape 9.
To create the base of the pirate ship, glue 3 cork stoppers side by side onto the canvas board.
Etape 10.
Draw and then cut out a boat sail about 10 to 12 cm high from a stiff colored card.
Once cut out, insert a wooden stick through it, as shown in the photo on the right.
Etape 11.
Decorate the sail in your image using stickers, rhinestones, paint markers ...
Etape 12.
Using a compass, make a small hole in the central stopper to insert the wooden dowel and the sail.
If necessary, adjust the wooden dowel with a pair of scissors.
Etape 13.
Here is a lovely 3D picture that little sailors can proudly display in their rooms!
