Discover a fun activity to do with children for autumn!
With a half styrofoam egg, some paint, and wooden matches, we will create an adorable hedgehog.
An easy craft that will be perfect for developing children's fine motor skills (especially when they need to place the wooden matches in the small holes!).
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
For this activity, you will need:
- a half polystyrene egg (15 cm)
- a wooden support Ø 20 cm
- acrylic paint (brown, flesh, green)
- a paintbrush
- wooden matches
- a wooden skewer
- 2 mobile eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- a pom-pom
- rubber tree leaves
- adhesive glue dots
Step 1
Paint a half styrofoam egg with brown paint (hedgehog's body) and with skin-colored paint (hedgehog's head).
Let the paint dry for about an hour.
Step 2
Paint the round wooden support with green acrylic paint and let it dry for about 45 minutes.
Step 3
This step can be performed by an adult if the child is too young.
Make small holes about 1 cm deep on the body of the hedgehog using a wooden skewer. This will make it easier to insert the matches in the next step.
Step 4
Insert wooden matches into the holes to create the hedgehog's spines.
Step 5
Glue 2 movable eyes and a pom-pom for the nose with the adhesive gel dots.
Step 6
Stick the hedgehog onto the wooden base using the adhesive gel dots.
Stick rubber tree leaves to create a lovely autumn scene!
