Lulu the Glow Turtle
Discover an amazing summer creative activity for children: create glow turtles using a mix of glue and cutting!
By using a half styrofoam ball, a half plastic ball, circles of tissue paper, paper, and a few accessories, children will have a great time with family making beautiful sparkling turtles.
This is an easy craft suitable for children from the age of 5, allowing them to have fun while developing their dexterity.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To carry out this activity you will need:
- a plastic ball Ø 10 cm
- a half ball made of polystyrene Ø 5.5 cm
- a round medium board Ø 10 cm
- tissue paper circles
- glue varnish and a brush
- a green cardstock
- a LED candle
- 2 googly eyes Ø 1.8 cm
- adhesive dots
- a pair of scissors
- a black marker
Step 1:
Apply glue with a brush over the entire inner surface of a plastic half-ball and then stick the circles of tissue paper.
Step 2:
Apply a layer of glue-varnish over each glued paper circle.
Step 3:
Then repeat these steps until the surface is completely covered, and let it dry for a few hours.
Step 4:
Repeat the same technique on a half Styrofoam ball using green tissue paper circles.
Step 5:
While the complete set dries, cut out 4 legs, a tail, and a circle of Ø 10 cm from a thick green card.
Tip: To cut out the circle, you can use a round MDF support.
Step 6:
Glue the legs and tail onto the round medium support with the glue varnish.
Step 7:
Then glue the 10 cm diameter circle onto the base for a nice finish.
Step 8:
Using adhesive dots, attach two movable eyes Ø 1.8 cm and draw a mouth with a black marker.
Step 9:
Next, glue the polystyrene half-ball onto the plastic half-ball using two adhesive dots.
Step 10:
Place an LED candle on the turtle's body.
Step 11:
Finally, place the turtle's shell on top of the candle.
Step 12:
You can turn off the light and watch the turtle's shell illuminate.
