A simple autumn craft for children suitable for ages 3 and up: create a funny owl hidden in a tree trunk.
With a simple log, two half foam balls, and orange paper, children can make a lovely owl in just a few steps. To add a realistic touch, simply draw the bark's veins with a white marker and glue on a few felt flowers.
A fun and complete activity to share with children, perfect for celebrating autumn and reminiscing about lovely walks in the forest.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To make an owl board, you need:
- a wooden log (Ø 14 cm)
- felt flower stickers
- 2 half-spheres made of polystyrene (Ø 4 cm)
- thick brown and orange paper sheets
- white and black paint markers
- brown paint + paintbrush
- a pair of scissors
- white glue
Step 1:
On a sheet of brown paper, position a wooden log in the center.
Then trace around the log, and draw veins and circles to imitate a tree trunk using a white poster paint marker.
Step 2:
On the wooden log, paint a brown area at the top to represent the owl's head.
Then let it dry for 20 minutes.
Step 3:
Cut a small triangle from a sheet of thick orange paper to make the owl's beak.
Step 4:
Draw the pupils on two half-spheres of polystyrene with a black paint marker. Once dry, add a highlight with a white marker.
Step 5:
Glue the beak and the two eyes onto the log using white glue.
Step 6:
Then glue the decorated log to the center of the brown sheet, aligning it with the outline drawn in the first step.
Step 7:
Finally, stick different colored felt flower stickers around the owl to enhance the decor.
