Discover a gentle autumn activity to do with children from the age of 3.
With a bit of modeling dough and some small craft sticks, we will create adorable hedgehogs to place on a bed of autumn-colored leaves. This easy activity combines modeling, painting, and gluing that will bring joy to your budding artists.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
For this activity, you will need:
- white air-drying modeling clay
- small wooden sticks (5.5 cm)
- paint (brown, skin color) and a brush
- a slice of wood
- rubber tree leaves
- googly eyes Ø 18 mm
- pom poms
- a tube of strong white glue
Step 1
Take about 300 grams of modeling clay, form a ball, and lightly flatten it to create the body of the hedgehog.
Step 2
Plant small wooden sticks into the modeling dough to create the hedgehog's spikes.
Leave a clear area on the front for the hedgehog's head.
Step 3
Remove the sticks and let the dough dry for 24 hours.
Note: removing the sticks at this stage will make it easier to apply the paint!
Step 4
Once the modeling dough is dry, paint the hedgehog: the body with brown paint and the head with flesh-colored paint.
Step 5
Replant the wooden sticks into the body of the hedgehog.
Step 6
Attach 2 moving eyes as well as a pom-pom to create the hedgehog's nose.
Step 7
Glue rubber tree leaves onto a slice of wood.
