Painting the name freehand requires confidence but yields the most personal result. First, trace it with a pencil, checking the centering and spacing before painting: a poorly centered name is immediately noticeable.

Sticking letters is safer and often more legible. The wooden letters for decorating come in small sizes and allow you to create the name in relief, with a lasting finish.

Using a stencil provides a regular outline, useful for long names or intricate typography.

In all cases, position everything blank before fixing anything: on a plaque, a shift of a few millimeters is noticeable.

Decorating around the name

The decoration should complement the text, not compete with it. A solid background highlights the letters; a busy background can drown them out. The most effective approach is to treat the perimeter, corners, or bottom of the plaque, leaving the space for the name relatively free. In a child's room, a simple theme—animals, stars, vehicles, flowers—is enough to set the tone. A light sanding before painting improves adhesion, and two thin coats yield a cleaner result than one thick coat.

Completing the decoration

A few added elements enrich the plaque without repainting. The wooden embellishments can be glued to the corners or around the name, and the natural wooden beads threaded on a cord create a decorative suspension.
