Four points to avoid unpleasant surprises.

• The surface absorbs. The open grain drinks in paint much more than a smooth support. Count on an extra coat, or accept the slightly faded effect, which is not a failure with this type of material.
• The bark may detach. A dot of glue around the edge stabilizes it permanently, especially on pieces intended to be handled.
• Wood works. Fine cracks may appear over time and with humidity variations. They are part of the material's appearance and do not affect its strength.
• No piece is identical. For a series project, plan for a margin: dimensions and shades vary from one piece to another. This is a point to anticipate for an order intended for a group workshop.

Composing a Natural Decoration

Raw wood has established itself in interiors for its ability to warm up a setting without overwhelming it. A thick slice placed flat becomes a trivet or a base; several grouped pieces form a centerpiece; bark and flat shapes dress a wall or panel.
