For this Halloween craft, children will have fun making a large bat using a polystyrene egg, paint, and paper.
We will even use glow-in-the-dark paint to make the bat shine in the dark. A fun activity that kids will love !

How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To make a bat you will need:
- a polystyrene egg (12 cm)
- a half ball of polystyrene (9.5 cm)
- 2 skewers
- paint (black and glow-in-the-dark)
- a paintbrush
- a black cardstock
- 2 googly eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- a black marker
- pumpkin stickers
- adhesive star rhinestones
- a pair of scissors
- a craft knife
- adhesive dots
Step 1
Paint the egg with glow-in-the-dark paint and the half sphere with black paint.
Tip: stick the styrofoam shapes onto wooden skewers to paint without getting your fingers dirty.
Step 2
Fold a strong black card in half, draw a bat wing, and then cut it out with a pair of scissors to obtain symmetrical wings.
Step 3
Stick the paper wings behind the polystyrene egg using 2 adhesive dots.
Step 4
Cut 2 triangles from the black cardstock to create the ears.
Make 2 slits at the top of the egg using a craft knife to insert the cardstock ears.
Step 5
Stick 2 googly eyes with adhesive dots and then draw the mouth of the bat with a marker.
Step 6
Insert a skewer underneath the egg, adjust the stick with a pair of scissors, and then plant it into the polystyrene base to make the bat "float" in the air.
Step 7
Decorate the polystyrene base with a pumpkin sticker and adhesive rhinestones.
Step 8
Thanks to the glow-in-the-dark paint, the body of the bat shines once night falls!
