Maëlle the Little Paper Bee
In this kids' craft, we will show you a trick to make a small bee using a few sheets of paper and a polystyrene ball.
Painting, folding, and gluing are on the agenda for this easy activity that children will love !
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To make a bee, you will need:
- a polystyrene ball Ø 5 cm
- yellow paint and a brush
- A4 color paper sheets (yellow, black, silver)
- 2 googly eyes Ø 18 mm
- a black caterpillar
- a black marker
- a pair of scissors
- a glue stick
- a glue gun
- a staple
- some clear nylon thread
Step 1
Paint the polystyrene ball with yellow paint and let it dry for about 45 minutes.
Tip : Stick the ball on a skewer to paint it without getting your fingers dirty.
Step 2
Cut two strips of paper 3 cm wide (30 cm long) from a yellow sheet and a black sheet.
Step 3
Stick the 2 strips of paper end to end at a right angle.
Step 4
Fold the strips of paper over each other along their entire length to create a paper "spring".
Attach the ends of the strips with a dot of glue.
Step 5
Decorate the bee's head by gluing on 2 googly eyes and then drawing a smile with a black marker.
Step 6
Cut 2 pieces of 6 cm from a black chenille and insert them into the polystyrene ball.
Wrap the ends to create a nice appearance for the bee's antennas.
Step 7
Glue the bee's head onto the paper accordion with a hot glue gun for a secure attachment.
Step 8
Place the bee on a sheet of silver paper and then draw the wings using a pencil.
Step 9
Cut out the wings and then glue them to the back of the bee using the glue gun.
Step 10
Insert a metal connector into the polystyrene ball to hang the children's creation.
Tip: We used clear nylon thread to create the illusion that the bee is floating in the air!
