Mushroom Suspensions in Modeling Clay

To make a mushroom, you need 1 ball of white clay about 2 cm for the stem. Then a ball of terracotta clay about 3 cm for the cap. 

Shape the stem into a length, and the cap between your fingers.

Shape the mushroom cap out of clay using a pointed modeling tool. Holding the cap between your fingers, use the tool to create grooves that mimic the natural gills underneath a mushroom. These lines add realism to the piece and provide an interesting texture to the cap. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to avoid piercing the clay while creating details that are distinct enough to be visible once the clay hardens.

In this step, insert a small metal hook into the center of the clay hat, extending it down to the base of the mushroom. This hook allows for a secure connection between the two parts while creating a fastener for hanging the decoration.

Make sure to push the hook in thoroughly to ensure the stability of the entire piece once the clay has hardened.

Add decorative touches to the mushroom cap by forming small balls with white modeling clay. Carefully place the small balls on the surface of the cap, gently pressing them to ensure they adhere well. These small white spots resemble the natural patterns of mushrooms and add a touch of realism to the decoration.

Make sure to space them out for a harmonious effect.

Let dry for 1 hour.

For this final step, thread a string through the metal loop inserted at the top of the mushroom cap during step 3. Tie the string to create a sturdy loop, making it easy to hang your mushroom-shaped decoration.

You can adjust the length of the string according to where you want to hang your creation. And there you go, your mushroom is ready to be hung!
