Pretty Watercolor Octopuses
In this summer tutorial, we will show you how to create a beautiful watercolor effect octopus using the watercolor transfer technique with aluminum foil.
This easy activity is perfect for spending time with children and developing their creativity and dexterity. You might be wondering what the magical ingredients for this activity are? Well, gather a plate and cardboard straws, pipe cleaners, half foam balls, markers, and aluminum foil to create tie-dye effect octopuses with your little artists.
Moreover, this will allow the little ones to unleash their imagination by envisioning beautiful color mixes.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials:
To complete this activity, you will need:
- a cardboard plate
- colored cardboard straws
- nine white caterpillars
- two half styrofoam balls
- aluminum foil
- thick-tipped markers
- a water reserve brush
- black and white paint markers
- adhesive gel dots
- a pair of scissors
- a hole punch
- a protective mat
Step 1:
Make nine holes along the edge of the plate using a hole punch.
Use a cutting mat to protect your work surface.
Step 2:
Cut a sheet of aluminum larger than the cardboard plate and then color it randomly with markers.
Step 3:
Fill a water reservoir brush and mix the colors together on the aluminum foil.
This mixture of colors will create a beautiful watercolor / tie-dye effect.
Step 4:
Apply the cardboard plate to the aluminum and press firmly to transfer the colors.
Step 5:
Remove the cardboard plate and let the ink dry for about an hour.
Step 6:
Cut approximately 72 pieces of cardboard straws, each 3 cm long.
Step 7:
Attach a caterpillar to one of the holes, then thread the straws onto the caterpillar.
Twist the end of the caterpillar to secure the straws.
Step 8:
Repeat the previous step 8 more times, you should achieve this result.
Step 9:
Using a black marker, color a circle in the center of each half-sphere that is 5.5 cm in diameter. Stick the two half-spheres together with adhesive dots at the center of the plate
Finally, draw a large mouth with the black marker
Tip: with a white marker, draw a few dots in the center of the eye to create a sparkling look
