Silk Painting - Scarf

Print the pattern you want to replicate. Place it under the silk scarf and attach everything to a cardboard support. Secure the scarf with clips so that it is taut. 

Tip: Cut a piece of cardboard the size of the scarf and add 3 cm of margin on the edges. Fix the scarf to the wooden frame using clothespins. 

Draw the outlines of your drawing with gutta. This white outline becomes transparent as it dries, allowing you to define the edges of the drawing like a masking fluid and preventing the paint from bleeding beyond the drawing. 

Remove the drawing from under the scarf and let the gutta dry in the open air. You must wait for the gutta to be completely dry (between 1 and 2 hours depending on the drawing) before applying the paint. 

The most fun part, of course! Apply the paint in the areas of the drawing previously defined by the gutta. 

Use only silk-specific paint to dye the scarf. Start from the top part of the drawing and gradually work your way down to avoid any potential mishaps! 

Let the paint dry in the open air. 

Once the paint is completely dry, wash the scarf in lukewarm water to remove the gutta. Be careful not to rub the fabric too hard, as you might damage the delicate silk fiber. 

Then let the scarf dry before ironing it. 

Ironing tip: Protect the silk with a damp cloth and never let the iron come into direct contact with the silk, or it may get damaged or even burned.
