How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Etape 1.
To make a string top you need:
- a strong white card of 300 g/m² A4 size
- 60 cm of satin cord
- a compass
- a ruler
- a pair of scissors
- a hole punch
- a tube of glue
- markers / colored pencils
Etape 2.
On a strong white cardstock 300 g/m² (A4 size), trace and then cut out 2 circles with a diameter of 12 cm.
Etape 3.
Glue the two paper discs together using a stick of white glue to create a thick single disc.
Etape 4.
Decorate both sides of the paper disk using markers, colored pencils...
Feel free to vary shapes and colors to achieve original visual effects when the spinning top is in motion.
Etape 5.
Using a hole punch, make 2 holes approximately 2 to 3 mm about 0.8 cm from the center of the circle.
Important: The 2 holes as well as the center of the circle must be aligned for the spinning top to work correctly.
Etape 6.
Cut a piece of satin cord about 60 cm long and then thread it through the 2 holes.
Etape 7.
tie the two ends of the rope together.
Etape 8.
Place the paper disc at the center of the string, then hold the string at both ends with two fingers closed around them.
Etape 9.
Spin the disk (about 7 or 8 turns) around the string by performing whirling motions with your wrists.
Once the string is coiled around itself, make small back-and-forth movements with your hands, like an accordion player, to make the top spin.
This technique may seem complicated at first, but after a few minutes of practice, you will completely master it!
Etape 10.
By varying the patterns and colors, you will achieve results that are all more interesting than the others.
This can also be an excellent method that is both creative and fun for teaching color theory to younger children.
