Discover how to create this watermelon pendant in polymer clay, a colorful and trendy accessory, perfect for personalizing your summer jewelry. This beginner-friendly tutorial guides you step by step in handling Fimo clay for a professional and adorable result.
To successfully create this piece, gather the following materials:
-
Fimo clay: pink (3 cm ball), green and white (2 cm balls), black (1 cm ball).
-
A rolling pin (or a smooth tube), a precision cutter or blade.
-
A round head pin for jewelry, a waxed cotton cord, glossy varnish.
-
An oven and baking paper.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Step 1
Start by preparing your different colors of clay. Shape a 3 cm diameter pink ball of clay, a 2 cm green ball, a 2 cm white ball, and a small black bead about 1 cm in size.
Step 2: Cutting the Base
Flatten the pink ball using a rolling pin to achieve a constant thickness of about 5 mm. Then, use a cutter to cut out a nice triangle from this slab.
Step 3: Assembly of the Bark
Form a thin sausage with the green dough and another with the white dough. Attach these two strips to the base of the pink triangle to simulate the bark of the watermelon.
Step 4: Face and Attachment
Use the black clay to add two small eyes and a smiling mouth. Gently insert a round-headed jewelry nail into the top of the triangle to create the pendant attachment.
Step 5: Adding the Seeds
With the remaining black dough, shape tiny tear-shaped grains. Distribute them harmoniously over the pink part of your creation.
Step 6: Baking
Preheat your household oven to 110°C. Place your creation on a sheet of parchment paper and bake for about 30 minutes.
Step 7: Finishing and Varnishing
Once the firing is complete, let the object cool completely. Then apply a layer of glossy varnish over the entire pendant to protect the clay and give it a nice shine.
Step 8: Assembling the Jewelry
Once the varnish is completely dry, slide a waxed cotton cord through the ring of the round head pin.
Final result
Your pendant is now complete and ready to be worn!
