My Funny Ghost Frame
Create a ghost frame using modelling clay, an easy and fun activity for Halloween.
It’s simple: roll small balls of modelling clay, then press and stretch them with your thumb to shape little ghosts. Use acrylic markers to draw their expressive faces. The result is a 3D Halloween picture filled with funny little ghosts, perfect to display on a shelf or table to decorate your home. Try different colours and textures of air-dry modelling clays!
Why this activity works well:
- Easy to do: no special tools needed to make the ghosts.
- Fun and sensory: your kids press, squash and stretch the clay with their fingers.
- Customisable: each ghost can have its own shape and expression.
- A lovely Halloween decoration to keep and use year after year.
How to make this craft step-by-step:
Materials
To make a funny ghost frame, you will need:
- a kraft cardboard frame
- patterned paper with a Halloween theme
- white Soft Clay modelling dough
- solid gouache sticks
- acrylic markers
- 3D Halloween stickers
Step 1
Use gouache sticks to colour the entire surface of the cardboard frame. Here, white was chosen to make the decorations stand out.
Leave to dry for a few seconds.
Step 2
Cut a piece of Halloween patterned paper measuring 8.5 cm by 15 cm.
Slide it inside the frame to create a nice background.
Step 3
Roll 3 small balls from the white modelling clay.
Step 4
Place each ball on the frame’s glass, then press with your thumb and slide the clay downwards, slightly to the side to flatten and stretch it.
The clay naturally forms a little ghost shape with a rounded head and a tapered tail.
Repeat to make several ghosts in different sizes and shapes.
Step 5
Let the ghosts dry for a few minutes. Use acrylic markers to draw two small black eyes and a mouth on each ghost.
Add small pink cheeks to make them look even cuter.
Note: The modelling clay ghosts take about 1 hour to dry completely.
Step 6
For the final touch, add some 3D Halloween stickers to the corners of the frame.
A bat, a little black cat with a witch’s hat... and your funny Halloween ghost frame is ready to display!
