Arches Watercolour Pad 300 gsm, 31 x 41 cm
Arches Watercolour: the world standard for watercolour paper. There are many watercolour papers, but Arches stands apart. Made at the Arches paper mill, founded in 1492 in the Vosges, it has been the benchmark for professional watercolour artists for over five centuries.
100% pure cotton: the real difference:
This sets it apart from cellulose papers, even those with good weight. Cotton fibres are long, flexible and naturally strong. In practice, this means:
- Water stays on the surface longer. You have time to work a wash, blend it, or correct mistakes instead of the colour soaking in immediately and fixing errors.
- Colours stay bright. Cotton does not dull pigments as it dries, unlike many loaded papers.
- The paper withstands everything. You can layer, rewet, blot, scrape or lift with an eraser without the surface fluffing or tearing.
Glued on all four sides: no need to stretch the paper!
This is the main advantage of the pad format. The 20 sheets are glued on all four edges, holding the top sheet tight as if stretched on a board.
You can flood the paper, work wet-on-wet, and apply large washes without the sheet buckling or forming pools of water. Once your painting is fully dry, you can remove the sheet by sliding a thin blade into the slot on the side.

FAQ
How do you remove a sheet? Wait until it is completely dry, then slide a thin blade (cutter or paper knife) into the slot on the pad’s side and run it around the edges. Removing a sheet while wet will deform it.
Which mediums can you use? Watercolour, gouache, ink, diluted acrylic, washes, watercolour markers and pencils, plus pencil, charcoal and fineliner for mixed media.
Can you paint on both sides? Since the sheets are glued on all four sides, you work on one side at a time. The reverse side can be used once the sheet is removed.
Does the paper last over time? Yes. Arches 100% cotton paper is designed for long-term preservation: it does not yellow or weaken, making it suitable for framed or sold artworks.
