Garlanded Snowman
Using a cone and a polystyrene ball, we will have fun creating a large snowman (over 30 cm) to decorate the house for Christmas!
An easy activity for children where they will enjoy painting, cutting, and gluing accessories to make a beautiful, colorful, and shiny snowman.
How to complete this tutorial step by step?
Materials
To create a lovely snowman you will need:
- a large polystyrene cone (25 cm)
- a polystyrene ball (Ø 10 cm)
- plastic buttons
- movable eyes Ø 2.5 cm
- adhesive rhinestones
- metallic garlands
- pipe cleaners
- a sheet of orange paper
- red paint and a brush
- brown pipe cleaners
- a pair of scissors and a craft knife
- skewers
- adhesive dots
Step 1
Step reserved for adults: cut the top of the cone (about 8 cm) using a cutter/knife.
For children: paint the top with red paint. This will be used to make the snowman's hat.
Step 2
Assemble the base of the cone, the ball, and the top of the cone using wooden skewers to insert into the polystyrene.
Step 3
Paste plastic buttons onto the base of the cone using adhesive dots.
Step 4
Decorate the snowman's head by sticking on:
- 2 large googly eyes
- a carrot cut from a sheet of orange paper
- rhinestones to create the mouth
Step 5
Decorate the figure with metallic garlands:
- one at the base of the hat
- one at the base of the cone
- one underneath the ball to create a scarf
Tip: twist the ends of the garland to hold its shape, then trim the excess!
Step 6
Make the arms of the snowman using brown pipe cleaners and position them on each side of the cone.
