Pébéo Studio XL Fine Oil Paint Set - 12 or 24 Colours
The Studio Huile XL range by Pébéo suits those new to oil painting or regular painters who prefer not to invest in extra-fine paints. It offers bright, deep colours that keep their intensity as they dry, avoiding the common dulling seen in entry-level oils.
The Studio Huile XL has a texture that works for all oil painting techniques:
- Glazing: applying thin, transparent layers of colour one over another to create the luminous depth typical of classical oil paintings;
- Impasto: applying thick paint with brush or palette knife to keep visible brushstrokes;
- Blending and alla prima: the paint stays workable for several days, allowing plenty of time to blend tones without rushing, unlike acrylics.
Available options:
- 12 tubes of 12 ml: A compact starter set with primary colours, earth tones, white and black. Ideal for learning to mix your own shades.
- 24 tubes of 12 ml: A larger palette with twice as many ready-to-use colours, including multiple shades per colour family, greens, purples and earth tones that are hard to mix purely. Saves time and enhances colour richness.
Thinners and mediums: Use turpentine for the first layers, then linseed oil or painting medium for later layers. Follow the rule of fat over lean: each layer should contain more oil than the one beneath to prevent cracking.
Drying time: Touch dry in 2 to 12 days depending on thickness and pigment. Full drying takes several months; wait before varnishing.
Oil painting without solvents: Yes, by applying thick paint and cleaning brushes with special soap. Odourless thinners are also available for poorly ventilated or shared spaces.
